TripleHead2Go Card…

Well, today’s mission is to work out the logistics for a VJ set I’ll be doing on Friday, under the name “Visions of Grandeur”.

The venue is the Winchester pub in Bournemouth, which gives me 2 plasma screens and a projector to start with, plus the projector that Dan has kindly lent to me. So I’m thinking that I’m going to need more than one output from my laptop. I’m now using Vidvox’s VDMX as a VJ controller. VDMX is Mac only, so I have to use the Macbook, or buy a Mac Pro. I think the cheaper and easier option is to get a triple head graphics card, such as the one from Matrox. At £250 its not cheap however, but will give me three screens in addition to my inbuilt screen.

However, I am concerned that unless I drastically reduce the resolution of the triplehead screens, I’m going to get a pretty big performance hit on the macbook. I mean, at the moment I get some slow framerates with just a single output running a couple of the more adventurous plugins. I might see if I can head to a local company that supplies the cards and see if I can test one out first.
